The Ebonyi State College of Health Sciences and Technology(EBCOHTECH), Ngbo, has declared her interest in the pursuit of environmental health. The Acting Provost of the School, Mr. Stephen Nwamkpuma, made this known at the 8th Matriculation ceremony of 350 students which took place in the school on Saturday, 30th November, 2019.

In his address, while expressing gratitude to the State Government through the State House of Assembly, for passing into law the bill establishing EBCOHTECH amongst other success stories, Mr. Nwamkpuma further notified the Government of the need for the accreditation of Environmental Health department and other necessities of the institution.

Dedicating the success to the State Governor, he expressed more satisfaction over the happenings, noting that all came to be, not long after he assumed office as the Acting Provost.

According to the Provost:
“To crown the success stories, permit me to eulogize men of timber and calibre, the Honourable Speaker of the most peaceful House of Assembly in Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru and his Honourable members for the speedy passage of the bill establishing this institution. The quick passage of the bill on 5th May 2019 as law 001 of 2019 by the Governor, Chief Engr. David Nweze Umahi, our able leader, left me in utter amazement and critical thinking.”

“Let me dedicate my success to my Governor, a man who thinks straight and creates a way, even in the wilderness for people to walk through. This is a document four(4) of my predecessors which they struggled with the last drop of their sweat without handling and this came barely two months after I assumed duties. All these achievements are challenges to me because it is said that to whom much calibre, more is expected.”

The Executive Governor of the State, Engr. David Umahi represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Education. Dr. Onyebuchi Chima, drew the attention of the students to the available opportunities rather than challenges, saying this:

“Of course you know in Ebonyi State, we don’t talk about challenges but opportunities. Those things you call challenges are simply opportunities for the Government.  Obviously, this place was a School but now a College and such in its time represent success and we need to keep the ground running. Meanwhile, what you call challenges as I said, are rather opportunities to make Ebonyi great in the entire Federation of Nigeria. I want the matriculating students to know that they are part and parcel of the state development; they have contributions to make which is dedication to their studies, bearing in mind that tomorrow will be their turn to take over leadership.”

Speaking on behalf of the staff and students of the institution, the PRO and Head of Publication, Mr. Onwe Chinedu and the SUG president, Comr. Rita Ikenna expressed their gratitude respectively to the state government and the entire members of EBCOHTECH, who in one way or the other have contributed to growth of the College. They further advised the students especially the matriculating ones to be mindful of their studies, knowing that knowledge is power and they have to work hard to excel in different aspects of life.
