The number one citizen of Ebonyi State, Engr. David Nweze Umahi has proven that his second term in office is not a play-time but a time for more engagement which is aimed at lifting Ebonyians out of poverty. He made this prove yesterday by swearing in 26 Commissioners, the local government advisory committee members and the co-ordinators, at the Akanu-Ibiam International Conference Center, Abakaliki.
Governor Umahi also made known the creation of the Ministry of Infrastructural Development for Concessions, saying more flyovers will be constructed and that his administration is bent on saving lives through this new ministry.
“We have to inform you that we created new ministry which is the Ministry of Infrastructural Development for Concessions. There are numbers of projects we are aiming to complete under this ministry; like the dualization of Abakaliki-Afikpo road, Abakaliki-Enugu road. We have flyover bridge at Nkalagu and Ezzamgbo Junction; we have introduced tunnel at waterworks, but we are almost changing our minds to flyover because there is so many conflicts there, so, Â we will take the flyover. We have another flyover at Vanco, a tunnel point at Ezza South, close to Onueke; we have flyover bridge at Amasiri junction, Â we have flyover in my own village and then, another flyover by the new College of Medicine. So, Â these are all within the new ministry while the rest are under the ministry of works. ”
On the other hand, Governor Umahi enjoined the Commissioners and other Government officials to be diligent in performing their duties, to join hands to save lives and eradicate poverty in the state and not depend on the treasure of the Government. According to him:
“I expect a very Robust engagement in our offices to help our people. We all have something deposited in us, so we have to practicalize them. If you want to make money in your own office, you have to generate it. There is so much loose money everywhere and you have to make use of it. And so, all eyes must be on the ball how to lift our people out of poverty.”
